Oh, have I got a gem of a place for you to visit in Notting Hill! The Distillery, located right on the famous Portobello Road, is a distillery-with-rooms that oozes character and offers great value. This is the home of Portobello Road Gin, so you can expect plenty of opportunities to sample and learn about this popular tipple.

The restaurant at The Distillery is always buzzing, and for good reason: the food is fantastic. From there, you can head upstairs to the Malt Room bar for a quieter drink, or take the stairs down to the basement, where you’ll find a reimagined Victorian ‘gin palace’. This is where the real fun happens – gin-tasting and whisky-blending events take place here, and the Ginstitute experiences are highly entertaining. You’ll get to learn about the history of gin, sample plenty of cocktails, and even blend your own botanicals.

The three double bedrooms at The Distillery are simply delightful. They’re beautifully decorated with gin-themed artwork and vintage record players that come with an eclectic vinyl collection. What’s more, you’ll be treated to a trio of complimentary pre-mixed cocktails. The only downside is that my subway-tiled bathroom could have been a bit cleaner, but overall, the room was fresh, homely, and represented excellent value in central London.

The rooms themselves are quirky and eclectic, with a mix of old and new furnishings that somehow work together seamlessly. From tiny attic rooms to spacious doubles with freestanding Victorian tubs (some balanced on old books!), each space is uniquely designed to make you feel right at home. And the beds? Sinkably soft pillows and bouncy mattresses that will have you drifting off to sleep in no time.

The staff here are simply wonderful, always on hand to help with anything you might need. They’re happy to recommend nearby restaurants or call in a takeaway for you, and the lounge is a great spot to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring.

As for the food, the menu may be small, but it runs into the night, making it perfect for those late-night cravings. And while the portions may be on the generous side, the food itself is not the highlight here. But fear not, because the breakfast options are sure to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Just hang a card outside your door before 5am, and your breakfast will be delivered in the 15-minute window of your choice.
