Even though I have been to Paris countless times, I always feel like I want to take a picture with the Eiffel Tower! I love this city so much and feel that my trip is never complete without that perfect shot.
Although the Eiffel Tower can be seen throughout the city, most people stop off at Champ de Mars to take a few snaps before disappearing into the metro again. Although a picture at Champ de Mars is not bad – I have some myself, it hardly is an original thing to do.
In fact, I would say that almost all tourists and tourist busses stop at this park at the foot of the Eiffel Tower to unload masses of tourists for a 20 minute “photo shoot” after which they zoom off to the next attraction.
Although I am definitely not saying that pictures at Champ de Mars suck, there are some disadvantages:
- It is not original – literally everyone takes pictures there
- There are always a gazillion tourists in the way that are now on your picture forever
- The Eiffel tower now has 10 feet bullet-proof glass walls surrounding the monument to stop terrorist attacks. Although this is amazing and is definitely a plus for the safety of tourists… it is not particularly pretty.
So taking pictures at Champ the Mars is okay (ish) but let me tell you that there are 5 other AMAZING places where you can snap your signature Eiffel tower photos!
Pont de Bir-Hakeim
Pont de Bir-Hakeim is a bit of a favourite for Instagram snaps and even bridal photoshoots. This little-known bridge offers an amazing view onto the Eiffel Tower and the metal and steel arches that support the metro track on top give the picture depth and a certain Parisian roughness.
One of the drawbacks of Pont de Bir-Hakeim however, is the fact that there is a lot of passing traffic. This means that you will have to time your picture very well – preferably when the traffic light for the cars is red.
Pont de Bir Hakeim is one of the bridges that crosses the Seine behind the Eiffel Tower. The bridge is easily accessible via the RER statin Champ de Mars Tour Eiffel or even the metro station Bir Hakeim. From the bridge you can easily walk up to the Eiffel Tower itself or pass by the other places named in this guide so you can snap more pics!
Avenue de Camoene
Avenue de Camoens offers one of THE best known views onto the Eiffel Tower. Just not that many people know where the view was from. Wink Wink.
Avenue de Camoens itself is a very picturesque street with a balcony overlooking the Eiffel Tower. It is one of my personal favourites and I love just standing there, staring at the Eiffel tower and letting it sink in that I am back in Paris!
The buildings along the Avenue de Camoens are all in that famous Parisian Housmann style and you the romantic lamp post on the right makes for the absolute perfect Parisian prop!
There are seldom any tourists except for people – just like you – who looked up great places to see the Eiffel Tower or the best spots to take Instagram shots.
Avenue de Camoens is just off Trocadero – the right side if you are facing the Eiffel Tower. You can easily walk there from metro stations Passy and Trocadero and I would highly recommend discovering and exploring the streets surrounding Avenue de Camoens as they are very pretty and actually pretty local!
Okay yeah – I get it. Trocadero really is not that original either. But let’s be honest, you do have an amazing view from here.
Trocadero is just across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower and was also the name of a palace built in 1878 that was demolished in 1937. The Trocadero Palace looked a bit like a round music hall, not dissimilar from the Royal Abert Hall in London and had beautiful exotic influences. The meetings of the Expo were held here.
Nowadays Trocadero is a heaving tourist hot spot where you have to be very careful not to fall prey to one of the many pickpockets. I would say that Trocadero is also one of the best places to buy souvenirs as most of the random sellers are open to negotiation where shops aren’t, and they often want to get rid of their wares fast.
You can walk to Trocadero from the Eiffel Tower or just hop off at the metro Trocadero.
Rue de l’Universite
One of the most intimidating and fantastic views of the Eiffel Tower – to me personally, has to be Rue de l’Universite! This perfectly Parisian road will allow you to take a picture with the Eiffel Tower looming over the end of the street.
Walk around in the area of Rue de l’Universite to discover other amazing spots and places to take pictures. Rue de l’Universite is normally very quiet and not many tourists know about this amazing spot. However, it has become much more popular with influencers and instafamous models because of the beautiful Hausmann style buildings and the absolute superbe view on the Eiffel Tower.
Rue de l’universite is an easy walk from The Eiffel Tower. If you are facing Trocadero under the Eiffel Tower the street is on your right. It is the middle street.
Book a hotel with an Eiffel Tower View
Instead of slaving away at walking routes and itineraries, why not book a hotel with an Eiffel Tower view? Although not always very cheap, you can easily book hotel rooms with amazing Eiffel Tower views in Paris.
