4 Best Spas in Kandy you NEED to visit this year!

Are you looking for the absolute best spas in Kandy?

Then this article is for you!

I love a good spa. Whenever I am travelling in Asia, I tend to have massages and spa treatments very often. When I was in Kandy I had a few massages and they were very good.

The interesting thing about spas in Kandy is that they tend to be Ayurvedic. Now, if you don’t know what that is, it’s where people believe plants can heal certain diseases. Sure, I don’t believe in it and I am not a fan, but the massages are nice and relaxing which is a plus in my book!

Anyway, there are lots of spas in Kandy Some of them are in the city, some in hotels and others are offered in the gorgeous jungle hills that surround the city.

To help you choose the best spas in Kandy, I have put together a list of 4 spas to look out for.

Sure I would normally love to recommend at least 5 places, if not 10 – but after doing extensive research and reading reviews, I don’t think any of the other ones are worth mentioning.

Suwaya Treatment Center

📍 Address: 68 14/3 Polwaththa Rd, Katugastota | 💰 From: $10

Such a beautiful experience. So lucky we came to visit whilst in Kandy. Walter even thought us some different meditation techniques after our treatment and took us around his garden. He is such a beautiful, genuine man with a strong passion for what he does. An experience like no other! Thank you Walter

If I had to book a spa treatment in Kandy today, I would book this one.

In recent years many great spas have popped up in and around the city, amd this is definatelu one of them. Suwaya treatment centre is located just outside the city near the Kandy river. The centre is surrounded by jungle and has a gorgeous garden with flowers.

The owner, Walter, does all the treatments himself. They take place in a gorgeous open cabin so you can hear the animals and birds in the jungle while you are getting your treatment. This means that you have an amazing and relaxing experience.

Before you start your massage you will also be offered a meditation session, and afterwards you can have an ayurvedic steam bath.

What about price? Well, the one-hour massages here are super cheap at about 3000 Sri Lankan Rupees. For the quality, this is an excellent value.

Laama Wellness

📍 Address: Near to Maligawa, 5 Temple St, Kandy | 💰 From: $20

Euline gave me the best Ayurveda massage I have ever received. Truly perfect!

If you are looking for a luxury spa experience in the middle of Kandy city, this one is for you.

All the rooms here are beautifully designed with a Sri Lankan flair. They are really calming and beautiful. Some are cladded in wood, others in shells.

Another reason why you might want to head to this spa is because it is eco-friendly.

There is also a shop that sells luxury spa products like oils, creams, and scrubs. The products are very good quality, whether you use them for treatments or buy them. Sure, they are pretty expensive but that’s what you pay for quality.

I also want to note that this spa runs in a number of hotels in the area including some in Ellya and the Golden Crown hotel in Kandy.

This is probably the best place to go if you are looking for a luxury spa day in Kandy.

Santani Wellness Kandy

📍 Address: Arantenna Estate, Werapitiya | 💰 From: $400

This place is magical! We had such a great time at Santani. It’s a super calm oasis in the middle of the mountains. The nature is stunning. The spa and pool extra ordinary. The cuisine is one of the best I ever experienced and the staff is wholeheartedly friendly. We love Santani.

Do you have a large budget and are you looking for a multi-day spa experience? Then Santani Wellness in Kandy might be the best pick for you.

This Wellness retreat is located in the hills of Kandy, pretty far away from the city. It offers luxury spa experiences in the peace and quiet of nature.

The main part of this Wellness Centre is located in a large modern glass building offering open views of the lush forests around. The treatment rooms open up right into the jungle! There is also a large pool with sun loungers with beautiful panoramic views.

Upstairs there is also a large restaurant offering elevated fine dining and panoramic views over the hills and forests.

Sure this place is expensive with a capital E. A packages costs about $800 a day for two people but they do include food, unlimited juices, yoga classes, treatments, laundry services, jungle walks and more. Some people said this was the most beautiful hotel they stayed in in Sri Lanka. So if you have a larger budget this might be the place for you!

Green Chaya Spa

📍 Address: No 15 Hantana Housing Scheme Rd, Kandy | 💰 From: $11

Very different massage from all other massages I had in multiple countries. In here we start from the head, shoulders, going down to the feet. Overall good experience. The lady who gave me the massage asked me few times if everything was ok and she insisted on my painful point to release the pain. Really nice herbal sauna after the massage. Owner is really friendly and you have a free pick up/drop off.

Green Chaya Spa is a very peaceful place in the beautiful green hills of Kandy.

The spa is very low key but it offers relaxing massages and treatments inclusing facials and massages. An amazing service is that they arrange tuk-tuk pickup from your hotel as the spa is quite a walk from the centre of the city.

At the spa, you can choose from different massages and treatments, all at very cheap prices. One thing I like to note is that the staff sometimes uses tiger balm. I understand that not everyone likes this so it’s a good idea let them know if you don’t want them to.

Facials aren’t the main focus. They are relaxing but I would not necessarily recommend them. On the other hand, they might be nice to tack onto a package with a massage and a herbal spa.

Booking is easy and all the communication happens through WhatsApp. For around £35 or $40, you get a full body massage, herbal steam, hair oil treatment, and facial. That’s cheap even for Asia.

Sure, this place isn’t luxurious, but it is clean, affordable, and the staff is really friendly.

One downside is the massage tables don’t have a hole for your face when you are getting a treatment. This can get a bit uncomfortable. On the other hand – this is a problem I have encountered in many spas in both Thailand and Sri Lanka so it is definately not uncommon.
