The New Forest is a paradise for pet lovers. Dogs can run and play with their owners on the forests and after long and tiring walks, there’s always a cosy pub with an open fire welcoming our fluffy friends.
Although you will find The New Forest to be exceptionally dog-friendly, it can be a bit hard to find a good place to stay when travelling with your dog(s). We had the same difficulties when our Golden Retriever was still alive.
In this blog post I have compiled a list of the best dog friendly and pet friendly places to stay in The New Forest.
Thatched Eaves offers two distinctive garden suites. One seems to be a converted garage while the other is a wooden structure in the garden. I might not be selling it to you at this point, but trust me when I say that both the wooden structure and the converted garages are absolutely stunning.
Both properties have a small private garden and patio where you can sit and drink a glass of wine and where you can let your dogs run around safely.
The bathrooms are modern and both bathrooms come with beautiful smelling hand soap, soft towels and Bramley toiletries.
Every morning you will be served a delicious full English in the room and pet bowls are available so you don’t have to lug them around.
Ibsley – where Thatched Eaves is located – is known for its amazing farm lands and the many water pools, rivers and lakes. If your dog loves swimming or playing in water, then Thatched Eaves might be your perfect stay in the forest.
Sit down after a tiring walk by one of the two wood burning stoves at The Old Village Shop. This wooden holiday home cottage located in Norleywood, close to the beautiful village of Lymington, is a perfect getaway for dog lovers who want to combine the best of the coast with the best of the forest.
The Old Village Shop has a fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms (one twin and one double) and two comfortable bathrooms. The donkeys and horses walk past the front gate of the property and the garden is completely enclosed which makes it a safe space for your dog.
The Old Village Shop accepts up to two dogs and there will be a small surcharge to be paid per dog you bring.
There is also a barbecue and barbecue equipment available – and even if you don’t feel like putting a piece of meat on the grill, you can still enjoy the sunshine on the deck from one of the lounge chairs available.
The Old Village Shop is a perfect stay for people with up to two dogs who like to have an active holiday.
Another great pet-friendly lodge is the Luxury Shepherds Hut. This little wooden hut is surrounded by fields. Every evening you go to sleep under a blanket of stars while in the morning you can enjoy your coffee basking in the sunlight and with the most beautiful views.
The owners recently bought new barbeque equipment and with a Sainsbury’s only a 5-minute drive away, your little cosy hut will always be fully stocked.
The Luxury Shepherds hut also has a patio from where you have views over fields and forest while inside it boasts a flatscreen TV, a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable bathroom with hairdryer.
There are boardgames and toys available for the kids and on request a pet basket and pet bowls will be provided for your four-legged friends.
The Luxury Shepherds Hut is located in Bransgore, on the edge of The New Forest. This makes this beautiful hut a perfect hideaway for people who want to combine shopping or beach trips to Bournemouth with the peace and quiet of the New Forest.
Have you always wanted to stay in traditional gypsy or traveller huts? Now you can… and you can even bring your dog!
Glamping in Traditional Huts in Sway offers tourists and guests the opportunity to spend the night in a beautiful and rustic traditional wagon.
The two wagons are located right next to a calm stream by which the local wildlife stops to have a drink. Don’t be surprised if you see deer grazing in by the stream or if kind New Forest ponies come to say hi.
The gipsy van is hand painted and restored to its original glory. It boasts a comfy double bed and even has a little wood burner for the cold nights. The roof is made of canvas but is insulated so you won’t ever be cold at night.
All lighting is solar powered and there even is a solar powered USB charger for your phones!
Although these traditional huts and vans are back to basics – they are a perfect holiday let for eco travellers or people who want to make the most out of their stay in nature.
You can bring your dog(s) at no extra charges and there is free on-site parking when needed.
Wayside Cottage in East-Boldre is a cosy and cute little cottage, perfect for a little romantic getaway with or without your dogs.
Not only is this lovely cottage surrounded by a nice little garden, the cottage also has direct access to The Forest. Inside the little cottage everything is mostly open plan with a fully-equipped kitchen , a cosy seating area with a wood burner and a comfortable bathroom with bath.
The canopied bed is to die for and the overall look and feel of the little cottage is incredibly romantic.
There’s a flatscreen TV and even a DVD player if you want to bunker down – or if the weather is great, you can sit outside on the patio or have yourself a little barbeque as barbeque equipment is provided.
Pets are allowed at no extra charge and as the garden is well sucured, they can roam the house and the garden without escaping. With the direct access to the New Forest, this little cottage is perfect for dog owners who are looking forward to long walks on the Forest.
Are you an outdoorsy person looking to enjoy the finer things in life? Don’t hesitate to book this Shepherds Hut with Hot Tub!

The hut can sleep 2 adults or 2 adults and 2 kids comfortably. There is a double bed and one bunk bed – the bunk bed is only really meant for kids to sleep on.
Outside on the patio you can find some nice outside furniture on which you can take your morning coffee or eat some of the nice food provided by the owner in the gift basket you receive when checking in. There is also a barbeque and a fire pit on which you can roast the marshmallows from the gift basket.
Next to the patio you can find this hut’s piece the resistance: the hot tub.
This beautiful wooden hot tub is perfect to drink a glass of (local) sparkling wine in as you have the same gorgeous views as you would have from the patio.
Your pets are more than welcome to join you at Shepherds Hut with Hot Tub at no extra charge!
If you love animals you are going to ADORE The Garden Room in Ringwood. This absolutely adorable cottage stands in a big garden where you have a view over the goats and geese in the neighbouring paddock and the horses and deer in The Forest.
The Garden Room itself is decorated in a rather bucolic style and I can honestly understand if this wouldn’t necessarily be your cup of tea. I would say though that the design and style of the decoration totally fits The New Forest and the long country walks you are bound to make here.
The Garden Room has a comfy bed, a flat-screen TV and even a DVD player for you to use. Outside you can make use of the garden furniture and when it gets chilly in the evening you can make a fire in the fire pit.
The owners of The Garden Room hold all kids of animals such as goats, geese, chickens and horses. They even have a black Labrador who would love to meet you. You can bring your own dog free of charge. As there are many other animals roaming the grounds, it would be a good idea to make sure your dog can handle the sensory overload (all the new smells!) before booking your stay at The Garden Room.

Brockenhurst is the beating heart of The New Forest. Not only is it a beautiful and cute little village, it also maintains a direct train connection with London Waterloo, and it has shops and other amenities in its picturesque high street.
Only a stone’s throw from this high street, yet tucked away between big trees and right off the New Forest, you can find the Forest Park Hotel.
The Forest Park Hotel is housed in a large period building with a substantial back garden. Locally The Forest Park Hotel is known for its amazing breakfast and their Sunday roasts.
The rooms at The Forest Park Hotel are all very modern with a hint of personality. Some will have a view over the garden while others overlook the forest and the trees on the other side of the road.

Thatched Cottage Hotel is a boutique hotel in the centre of Brockenhurst. They are known in the area for their beautiful rooms, their amazing gins and their great hospitality.
This boutique hotel boasts six rooms of which four are situated in a modern building in the garden. From the garden rooms you have a beautiful view over the garden and the Thatched Cottage.
