A romantic getaway in The Cotswolds – What to do in The Cotswolds?
The Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful regions of England. This area of outstanding natural beauty has postcard-like landscapes and green hills. The Cotswolds are known for their small villages of flowery cottages and for being a great romantic gettaway. The Cotswolds villages are built with honey-colored limestone. For centuries, this stone has been used for all constructions: cottages, mansions, churches or pubs… Tourists from all over the world come here to soak up this “British” atmosphere. They hike or drive from village to village, sleeping in B&B’s or the local inn. Here’s a small list of what to do on your romantic trip through The Cotswolds.
Smell the roses during beautiful garden visits
The Cotswolds have charmed us with its beautiful flower gardens. Each of the gardens has been beautifully designed and you can spend hours smelling roses and sitting on benches enjoying the flowers.
My ultimate favourites are the gardens of Sudeley. These gardens surround a medieval castle which was the last home of Queen Catherine Parr, Henry VIII’s last wife. Rose bushes and clematis climb to storm the ruins of the tithe barn, transformed into a romantic garden.
Discover small villages by bike
The English might not be a people that likes to cycle, but cycling with your partner is amazing! You can book a guided cycling tour with your partner and discover the beautiful countryside.
The Cotswolds are perfect for exploring by bike. You can cycle along the many quiet, beautiful country lanes and bridle paths while enjoying the countryside. On a bike it is easier to take in the breathtaking scenery and discover old, pretty villages. There are agencies that offer special bicycle hire service for guests during their stay.
Take a romantic horseback riding tour
Horse riding has always been very romantic. Equestrian schools and centres such as Bourton Vale Equestrian Centre offer horse riding tours. The level of the rider doesn’t matter, they are more than happy to teach you.
Even if you’re new to horses and a total beginner, the staff is helpful and will make sure you feel comfortable right away. I cannot recommend discovering the area by horse more!
Put together a pick-nick and go fishing
If you prefer a calmer activity, we recommend Lemington Lakes. They are are an amazing fishing and holiday complex. They offer fishing in beautiful and calm surroundings. The view over the lakes is spectacular.
You get to chill, talk and enjoy the amazing nature all while fishing. Pack up a pick nick and maybe even a bottle of wine (or two) and spend the day talking and fishing!
Camp out at a beautiful Cotswolds farm!
What’s more adorable than camping in a farm with your partner? A lot of farms in the cotswolds offer the possibility of camping. You will have access to all comfort and amenities while immersing yourself in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
We recommend Moor Farm, it‘s a real-life paradise. Only 8 km from the ancient town of Gloucester and a short walk from the Severn River Estuary, you will both get the chance to de-stress and relax. Moor Farm has a very cozy common room, perfect for groups as well as a huge barn for parties and weddings. It also offers an indoor pool.
