10 Netflix movies and series to look out for in April

New month means new stuff to discover on Netflix… and I could not be happier. As a regular Netflix user, it is easy to feel you have gone through everything, you have seen everything and there is literally nothing out there that would satisfy your binge watching needs. Here are ten ( not in order ) new series and movies to look out for in April ( and there are some good ones!)

Wynonna Earp

Wynonna Earp is a series I saw last year, when I was still living in Belgium and waiting to move to London. I had just finished bingeing on Supernatural and found myself missing the Winchester brothers and their demon hunting business. Enter Wynonna Earp, a kickass woman, and direct descendant of Wyatt Earp.

After years of being away from home, Wynonna Earp returns to her home town, Purgatory,  only to find out that there are revenants – demons who died by Wyatt Earp’s gun peacemaker. Together with her sister and her best friend, agent Xavier Dolls she is bound to hold clean house in town.

Absolutely awesome series I can personally recommend to all fans of Supernatural and Lost Girll fans.

Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On: Season 1

Hot Girls Wanted, the documentary, is literally one of those TV moments I want every teenage girl out there to see. I want girls to see what bad decisions look like and I want them to see other people make those mistakes so they will not make them for themselves.

Hot Girls Wanted is a documentary, and since this month also a TV show, is about the American porn industry where hundreds of young, naive small-town girls, getting attracted to the high-end lifestyle a life in porn portrays. Soon enough they find out that while having sex before camera pays of big bucks, the industry takes a physical, mental and financial toll. What will parents say? How does society perceive them when they step out of the business and how will they themselves look back at this part of their life? This documentary is such a deep and honest picture of the life as a porn girl and they do it in such a non-judgemental and open way that I can definitely say that this is one of my favourite documentaries and that I am looking forward to seeing the series.

Across The Universe

I am a big BIG Beatles fan and I am so glad that I am able to share this movie with you. It was the movie that actually got me into the band and no, I am not kidding. To my big shame I have to say that ten years ago, this movie introduced me to the genius that is the Beatles. Jim Sturgess plays the absolutely smoking Jude, a lower class Liverpudlian, who falls in love with an upper-class American girl. In the backdrop we see the big protests against the Vietnam war enroll and take both lives and minds of those who fight… but it is not the absolutely amazing cinematography, the great love story nor the pristine decors that made me fall in love with this movie : It was the music.

All songs in this movie are Beatles covers and I still have not decided which I like best : The OST or the real deal.

Who has not read every Roals Dahl book cover to cover when they were young ( or even not so young)? And who did not want a best friend just like the BFG? Well then, Roald Dahl fans might want to let out a little cheer when hearing that the 2016 full length motion picture of the BFG will now available on Netflix from April 6th on.

Homeward Bound : The Incredible Journey

It’s an oldy, but it’s a golden one. I can proudly say that this was my favourite movie when I was a child. I can still remember putting the VHR into the big black box under the TV and fast forwarding through fifteen minutes of adverts until I heard the iconic theme song ( it just started playing in my head… bliss!).

So for those who do not know what this movie it is about : It is about two dogs and a cat that are living with a very sweet and caring family. When the family drops of the animals at a friend’s farm before leaving on a short honeymoon, the animals ( they talk by the way… it is completely legit awesome!) think that there is mix up and that the family simply forgot them. Together they embark on – how did you guess, an incredible journey to get back home. Tears me up every time this one! Have you ever seen this movie?

The Secret Life Of Pets

Waaaaaa! I have not seen this movie yet but I am so so so looking forward to this one! I mean, we never really got around to watching it because it was overmarketed and overhyped… but the little kid deep inside of me really wants to see it.

Secret Life of Pets is about a little terrier that lives a comfortable life in a New York flat until his owner adopts a big dog called Duke. During a walk outside they get teased by a group of cats, which makes that both dogs end up in a truck bound for the pound. A small little bunny calls Snowball saves both dogs in return for…. joining Snowball’s group of abandoned pets and their war against the humans who have done them wrong.

You can watch this one from April 22nd

The 101-Year-Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared

The 101-year old-man that climbed through the window and disappeared is an amazing book and an amazing movie. I had no idea there was a sequel and I am so looking forward to watching this one. Have you seen the first movie? What did you think?

I did not find a trailer for the second movie so you’ll have to do with the awesomeness that is the first.

On your screen from April 25th

Queen of Katwe

On the same day you’ll be able to watch The 101-Year-Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared, there is another pearl of modern television coming out. Queen of Katwe – I remember this one from the adverts in the cinema and remember telling my boyfriend sitting next to me that I really wanted to see this one. It is about a girl in a poor, African community that makes it big as a chess player. It is feel good with a pinch of drama and a whole deal of female kicking ass.

Kubo and the Two Strings

This movie did something not a lot of animation movies did before : An almost perfect score on Rotten Tomotoes ( 97%!!). So what is it about? It is about a small boy that has to find a magical suit in ancient Japan, worn by his father, so he can defeat an evil spirit.

Great sunday afternoon movie to watch from 8 April on.

Cool Runnings

Why is this old movie on here? Well maybe because it is one of the most awesome comedies ever! Did you know it was also based on a true story? Cool Runnings is about the first ever Jamaican Bibsledge team that wants to compete in the winter olympics and it is hands down one of the funniest movies out there! Thank you netflix for showing it!
